We had a wonderful 7 nights at the Observatory. Fair Isle was beautiful, we could watch the birds and the changing weather from our room or the lounge area. The team were all so helpful (especially with assisting us to leave after weather delays) and the food was yum! As a vegan I was extremely well catered for, which can be a rare experience. I would highly recommend the Observatory as a great place to stay and experience the wonders of Fair Isle.
Beautiful building on a beautiful island ran by beautiful people! The team at the obs couldn’t have done more for us during our stay! The food was amazing, the rooms were great with lovely views! A fantastic place, we will definitely visit again! Thanks so much for looking after us!
Lovely spot on this special island. This is NOT an hotel, so don’t expect room service or waiter service. But it is a splendid hostel accommodation of the highest quality. Fab views and people.
We were on the island as a wedding party. Great place to stay whilst enjoying the Island. The team made us all feel welcome and even "singed" my toast exactly as ordered!! I also found out a lot about sea birds . Hope to visit again .
We had the best week at the bird obs! Steve and Ruth made us feel so welcome, we took part in puffin walks and other wildlife spotting/bird ringing which was totally new for us. The food provided was absolutely delicious and healthy. Rooms super modern (brand new), comfy beds and lovely chill out area to relax after a long day exploring beautiful fair isle. Can’t wait to book and come back!
Truly magical place. We stayed for a knitting holiday but discovered the fascinating world of bird watching (who knew you could do this as a job ) The room was comfortable and the common areas were all very luminous with great views. Nice location with sea and sheep views. The food was excellent and very accommodating to my (numerous) dislikes. We stayed for 10days and got to taste some amazing meals all varied and with yummy desserts every night. On top of that the staff is truly the best gem of this place. We will definitely stay there when we come back and hope to see everyone again. Might be able to name a bird or two if we stay long enough. Be sure not to miss the log at 20:00 every night ; so interesting.

Absolutely amazing here I had the most delightful experience. The set menu food was absolutely amazing, with every dish presenting a perfect balance of flavors. The room was immaculate, offering a sense of comfort and tranquility. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night's sleep. The staff's hospitality was outstanding, making my stay truly memorable. The attention to detail in every aspect was impressive. I highly recommend to anyone seeking a wonderful experience.
